Year 4 Autumn 2025

This Autumn, Year 4 will be diving into an exciting range of topics across the curriculum!

English
We are reading The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Philip Pullman — a magical adventure full of courage, creativity, and discovery! This story will inspire our own writing as we create exciting characters, settings, and stories full of imagination. We’ll also work on developing our reading skills, building a rich vocabulary, and using descriptive language to make our writing sparkle.

Maths
In maths, we are learning all about place value, understanding what each digit in a number represents. We’ll practise reading, writing, comparing, and ordering numbers confidently. Later in the term, we’ll collect and explore continuous data, learning how to represent and interpret it using charts and graphs.

Science
Our science topics this term are Electricity and States of Matter. We’ll start by learning how electrical circuits work, investigating conductors, insulators, and how to stay safe around electricity. Then, we’ll explore States of Matter, discovering the differences between solids, liquids, and gases, and investigating how materials can change state through heating and cooling.

PSHE
In PSHE, our theme is Looking After My Body. We’ll explore how to make healthy choices for our bodies and minds, understand the importance of self-care, and learn simple ways to stay healthy and safe every day.

P.E.
In P.E., we will develop our teamwork and coordination through games and activities that help us build strength, balance, and fitness. We’ll also learn to play fairly and support one another as a team.

Geography
In geography, we’re exploring the topic of Population. We’ll investigate where people live around the world, why some places are more crowded than others, and how population affects the way we live.

History
In history, we are travelling back in time to the Roman Empire! We’ll discover how the Romans lived, what made their empire so powerful, and how their inventions and ideas still influence our lives today.
