RE - Branch One: Creation and Covenant
Pupils learn about the story of Noah, mainly focusing on God’s promise, or covenant, with Noah and with all creatures that ‘nothing of flesh shall be swept away again by the waters of the flood’ (Gen 9:15), a promise symbolised by the rainbow.
The Sacrament of Baptism forms the next part of Creation and covenant as the sacrament is a covenant with God (YC 194) and, as in the story of Noah, a person is reborn from the waters.
Literacy - Class Text: The Pirates Next Door
We explore this text as a class to improve our reading, extend our vocabulary and develop our writing skills. We discover what nouns and adjectives are, what questions and statements are; and learn how to innovate the story. Read one of our pupil's innovated story below.

Maths - Topics: Numbers within 100, Addition and Subtraction of Two Digit Numbers
This half term we have been developing our understanding of place value to 100. The children have been learning to read, write and represent numbers using numerals and words, while exploring the value of tens and ones. Using practical resources such as Dienes blocks, they have built, partitioned and compared numbers to strengthen their understanding of number structure and support their mathematical reasoning.
Alongside place value, we have been practising ordering and sequencing numbers to 100, identifying greater and smaller values and explaining our thinking using mathematical vocabulary. The children have also been revisiting number bonds to improve fluency and recall, enabling them to work more confidently with calculations.
Science: Living Things and Habitats
- We have been sorting and grouping things which are alive, dead or have never been alive - this led us to some interesting discussions with items such as a log fire!
- We have learned that all living things are: MRS.NERG!! We enjoyed creating actions to help us remember what MRS.NERG is! Movement, Respiration, Sensitive, Nutrients, Excretion, Reproduction and Growth.
- We know what a biome is and how an animal adapts to it's environment - we dare you to ask us about camels and why their eyes lashes are so long!
PSHE: Different Types of Families, RHSE and Equality & Diversity.
- PSHE: Through our learning in PSHE we've decided, as a class, that it doesn't matter what your family looks like, how many people are in it or who you live with. What matters is that we feel loved because that's what being in a family is! We also thought about how our class is one big family. As we get to spend so much time together everyday - it's important to love one another, just like Jesus taught his disciples.
- RHSE and Equality & Diversity: Through this unit of work we learn that we are growing and developing in diverse communities that are God-given. We are taught to recognise the joy and friendship of belonging to a diverse community and explore this through the The Great Big Book of Families by Mary Hoffman.
PE: Multi Skills
Multiple skills are being developed through sporting games such as team building, listening and communication in our PE lessons. Social and emotional behaviours are being worked on in real-time during lessons, supporting our Year Two's to develop self-control and generosity when working in a group setting.
Computing: Information Technology is All Around Us
Led by Miss. Mutepfa Year Two have been learning that technology is anything that helps us to do something; they learned that even a pencil is a piece of technology! They have experimented with photography and can identify IT used in our classroom.
Geography: Nature All Around Us
We've enjoyed exploring the outside to see which creatures live with us locally. We've looked more widely at the UK and determined that we live near the coast, mountains and the countryside! We understand that animals such as squirrels, who live in our country, have adapted to survive here. We explored what a food chain is and learned how plants are producers for animals, who are sometimes food for us! We compared our school to a school in Florida to see what is the same and different and we developed our map skills!
History: What was Life Like in Later Stuart England?
Starting with the Civil War we travelled back in time to discover that England was without a King! We re-enacted the restoration period from Oliver Cromwell to Charles II returning. We learned about Cheapside by becoming merchants; we loved drawing our jewellery and fabrics on our stalls! Then came the plague, followed by The Great Fire - we learned that even though both events in history were terrible they taught us how to live more safely! We finish off our unit by learning how to dance to Baroque music as if we were Kings and Queens at court!
Art and Design & Technology: Explore & Draw and Design and Sew A Pouch
Art: We've been learning that artists are explorers, we've explored our school grounds and collected fallen nature from the ground. We used this to create art pictures which we photographed. We also worked with white chalk pebbles and created a class installation which we called Halo, we placed white chalk pebbles in a giant circle, before creating smaller halos around trees. We thought about how all of God's creations (including us) our sacred.
Design & Technology: We have learned what a template is and how we can draw these to create objects that we can sew together. We've been making a simple purse for precious items.
Music: Hands, Feet and Heart
Miss. Mutepfa leads our musical lessons, we've been exploring beautiful African rhythms and learning how to play the glockenspeil!
