Nest Autumn 2026
Autumn 1: Little Hands, Big Hearts
This term has been a wonderful start to the year in Nursery. Some children were returning to familiar routines, while others were beginning their Nursery journey for the first time. The children have been building their confidence, developing their independence and they are valued members of our Nursery family. We have seen some beautiful friendships forming in our class, with some wonderful acts of kindness has been on display too!

Literacy
Through our focus stories, "Happy to be Me", "Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes" and "Hide and Seek", the children have been developing their listening, speaking and early literacy skills. They have enjoyed retelling stories and learning new vocabulary, recognising themselves in photographs and have been starting to recognise their names too! The children have also been joining in with rhymes and repeated phrases, as well as doing rhythm sticks to build knowledge of rhythm, hand co ordination, and listening to instructions!

Mathematics
The children have explored colours, matching and sorting this term as well as counting through songs and rhymes, practical play and investigation. They have been working hard to identify objects that are the same or different, finding matching pairs, they've looked at big and small, and identifying colour names and linking objects to the colour. We have been building our mathematical vocabulary using words like pair, match, sort, same, different, big, small, top, middle, bottom.

Personal Development
A key focus for us this half term has been developing positive relationships, learning how to be part of a class community, and starting to understand the wider community around us. The children have practised sharing, taking turns, expressing and understanding their feelings, and becoming increasingly independent in everyday routines. The children have explored their families, school community and the world around them. They have enjoyed exploring the signs of Autumn in our outdoor space. They have been learning about people who help us through special visits from a nurse and a police officer. We have been looking at what makes each of us special, unique and a treasured part of our Nest class.
Religious Education
In RE, the children have been learning about God's wonderful world and reflecting on the beauty of creation. Through prayer, discussions, exploration and art we have been beginning to understand that the world is special, God loves us, and we need to help God look after his beautiful world. We have also been learning about our special book called "The Bible" and have been discussing how it tells God's stories. We have been practising our sign of the cross as well and how to be respectful during prayer time.

We are very proud of how well the children have settled, grown in confidence and embraced the new school year. It has been a joy to see who they are and to see their development so far.
We look for to what the next half term will bring!
