Religious Education Curriculum

'With Christ as our Light, We learn, Love and Shine with Excellence.'

Religious Education

At Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Primary School, Religious Education lies at the heart of everything we do. We participate fully in the Church’s universal mission to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, ensuring that our children are nurtured in faith, knowledge, and understanding as they grow in their relationship with God.

Following the Religious Education Directory (RED) from Nursery to Year 4 and Come and See in Years 5 and 6—both recommended by the Archdiocese of Liverpool—our curriculum is carefully designed to form religiously literate and engaged young people. Pupils are encouraged to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills, appropriate to their age and ability, to reflect spiritually, think ethically and theologically, and recognise the demands of religious commitment in their daily lives (RED 2023).

Our teachers plan lessons that embody Catholicity, weaving the values of the Gospel and the richness of the Catholic tradition into every learning experience. Through the scriptures, children are invited to encounter Christ, reflect deeply on His teaching, and respond creatively in ways that inspire both personal faith and collective worship. Lessons are age- and stage-appropriate, designed to support pupils’ oracy, reasoning, and creativity, while providing opportunities to grow spiritually and personally.

By engaging with stories of faith, prayer, Catholic teaching, and the wider Christian tradition, pupils not only learn about the Catholic religion but also grow within it. Our Religious Education curriculum seeks to form the whole child—head, heart, and hands—helping them to live out their faith with joy, compassion, and hope.

Our new programme of study, To Know You More Clearly, has been approved by the Bishops’ Conference for use across the different age groups in our school. This framework will be introduced progressively and will fully replace the Come and See programme by 2027.

Come & See (Y5 & Y6)

Currently, Years 5 and 6 follow the Come and See programme. By 2027, these year groups will transition to the To Know You More Clearly programme.
